Daxxify vs. Botox vs. Dysport: Dose, Duration & What Actually Matters

If you’re comparing Daxxify, Botox, and Dysport, you’re probably wondering the same things most patients ask us:

Which one works fastest? Which one lasts longest? And which one will look the most natural?

The answer is a little more nuanced than simply saying one neurotoxin is “better” than another.

Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify are all botulinum toxin type A neuromodulators. They temporarily relax targeted facial muscles that create expression lines.

While their formulations, dosing, onset, and clinical characteristics differ, there’s one factor that plays a major role in the longevity of all neurotoxins:

Dose.

The amount of product used matters—and it’s one of the biggest things we want patients to understand when comparing neurotoxins.

This article is for general education only. Cosmetic injectables are medical treatments, and an experienced licensed provider should evaluate your anatomy, muscle strength, medical history, and aesthetic goals before recommending a product or dose.

First Things First: Dose Matters for Duration

One of the most common misconceptions about neurotoxin is that a smaller dose automatically means a more natural result.

Not necessarily.

When neurotoxin is underdosed, you may initially love having plenty of movement—but that movement may also return sooner.

In general, adequately treating the strength of the muscle gives us a better chance of achieving both an effective correction and better longevity.

This is why we sometimes tell patients:

You may feel a little more “frozen” on the front end if your priority is longevity on the back end.

That doesn’t mean everyone needs to look expressionless.

It simply means there’s a balance between how much movement you want to maintain and how long you want your treatment to last.

If you prefer more movement immediately after treatment, that’s completely okay—but your result may begin wearing off earlier.

If maximum longevity is your priority, you may need to be comfortable with a stronger correction initially. Over time, the treatment naturally softens and movement gradually returns.

The goal is finding your sweet spot between movement and longevity.

One important note: Botox units, Dysport units, and Daxxify units are not interchangeable. You cannot compare the number of units between products one-to-one.

So, Does Daxxify Really Last Longer?

Daxxify is known for longevity, and in clinical trials using 40 units for glabellar lines, patients maintained none-to-mild frown lines for a median of approximately 24 weeks, or about six months. Individual duration varies.

But there’s an important piece of context patients don’t always hear:

Dose and formulation both matter.

Daxxify was studied and FDA approved for glabellar lines at a 40-unit dose, while Botox Cosmetic’s FDA-approved dose for glabellar lines is 20 units.

Because these products have different formulations and unit systems, that does not mean Daxxify is simply receiving “twice as much.” Neurotoxin units are not interchangeable from one product to another.

The bigger takeaway is that longevity is influenced by more than the product name alone. Botox and Dysport can also provide impressive longevity when appropriately dosed for a patient’s muscle strength, anatomy, and desired level of movement.

So instead of thinking:

Daxxify = long-lastingBotox or Dysport = short-lasting

Think:

The right product + the right dose = the best chance of getting the duration and movement you want.

Botox: Predictable, Customizable & Tried-and-True

Botox Cosmetic contains onabotulinumtoxinA and is probably the most recognizable neurotoxin on the market.

It has decades of cosmetic use behind it, and injectors are extremely familiar with its dosing and behavior.

For many patients, Botox gives a very predictable result and is easy to customize depending on how much movement they would like to maintain.

Results typically begin developing within the first several days, with the full result continuing to settle over the following couple of weeks.

How long a patient’s result lasts can vary depending on factors like muscle strength, treatment area, anatomy, previous treatment history, and the amount of movement they want to preserve.

Someone with very strong forehead or glabellar muscles who receives a very conservative dose may not get the same longevity as someone whose muscles are more fully treated.

So when someone says:

“Botox just doesn’t last on me.”

Sometimes it’s worth evaluating the treatment plan and dose before blaming the product.

Why We Love Botox

Botox is predictable, extremely well studied, and highly customizable.

It can be a great option for first-time patients as well as experienced neurotoxin patients who already know exactly how much movement they like.

Dysport: Known for a Quick Onset & Beautiful Blending

Dysport contains abobotulinumtoxinA.

Its units are measured differently from Botox, so the numbers cannot be directly compared.

For example, receiving 50 units of Dysport does not mean someone received “more Botox.” They’re completely different unit systems.

One reason patients and injectors love Dysport is its reputation for a quick onset.

Many patients notice their Dysport beginning to take effect a little faster than Botox, although individual timing varies.

Dysport also has diffusion characteristics that can make it beautiful for treating broader areas when we want a smooth, blended result.

Why We Love Dysport

Dysport can be a great option for patients who:

  • Want a quick onset

  • Like a smooth, blended result

  • Are treating broader areas

  • Have responded well to Dysport previously

  • Want an alternative to Botox

Daxxify: Fast Onset, Longevity & a Unique Peptide Formulation

Daxxify contains daxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm.

What really sets its formulation apart is its proprietary peptide excipient called RTP004.

This peptide is used as a stabilizer within the Daxxify formulation and is one of the major differences between Daxxify and traditional neuromodulator formulations.

Daxxify is also known for a very quick onset.

While every patient responds differently, many notice Daxxify beginning to take effect extremely quickly.

A simple way we explain the general onset difference to patients is:

Botox → gradual

Dysport → quicker

Daxxify → often very quick

That doesn’t mean every patient will follow that exact timeline, but it can be a helpful way to understand the general differences between the three.

Why We Love Daxxify

Daxxify can be especially appealing for patients who:

  • Prioritize longevity

  • Want a quick onset

  • Prefer fewer treatment appointments throughout the year

  • Already know they enjoy a more complete neurotoxin correction

  • Like the unique Daxxify formulation

What About the “Daxxify Glow”?

This is one of the more interesting things patients sometimes notice with Daxxify.

Daxxify’s proprietary peptide formulation differentiates it from Botox and Dysport, and some patients report that the skin over their treated areas appears especially smooth or radiant after treatment.

We like to describe this carefully.

Daxxify is still a neuromodulator—not a skin resurfacing treatment or injectable skincare product.

However, between reduced repetitive muscle movement and its unique formulation, some patients feel there’s an additional skin-quality component to the overall appearance of their result.

It’s what we sometimes refer to as the “Daxxify glow.”

Movement vs. Longevity: Finding Your Sweet Spot

This may be the most important takeaway from the entire neurotoxin conversation.

We completely understand why new patients sometimes come in saying:

“I want the smallest amount possible because I still want to look natural.”

Natural results are always the goal.

But natural does not necessarily mean underdosed.

A great neurotoxin treatment should preserve the expressions that make you look like you while appropriately relaxing the muscles responsible for unwanted lines.

There’s often a relationship between how much movement you maintain initially and how much longevity you can expect later.

If significant movement immediately after treatment is important to you, that’s completely fine—but you may need more frequent maintenance.

If longevity is the priority, you may need to be comfortable feeling slightly more “frozen” during the first part of your treatment cycle.

The good news? You don’t stay at peak effect forever.

Your result gradually softens, and expression slowly returns over the following months.

A little more frozen on the front end can mean more longevity on the back end.

That’s why treatment should always be customized to your anatomy and goals—not copied from your best friend, TikTok, or a unit chart online.

So, Which Neurotoxin Should You Choose?

There’s no universally “best” neurotoxin.

We choose based on:

  • Your anatomy

  • Muscle strength

  • Previous treatment experience

  • How quickly you want your treatment to kick in

  • How much movement you want to preserve

  • How often you want to come in

  • Your desired longevity

Some patients are loyal Botox patients forever.

Some switch to Dysport and love how quickly they notice their result.

Others try Daxxify and love the combination of quick onset, longevity, and the overall appearance of their skin.

And some patients rotate products depending on their goals.

The brand matters—but your treatment plan matters more.

The Takeaway

Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify are all effective neuromodulators, but simply comparing brand names doesn’t tell the whole story.

Dose influences duration, and the right treatment plan is about finding the balance between the movement you want and the longevity you expect.

Botox gives us incredible predictability and customization.

Dysport is loved for its quick onset and smooth blending.

Daxxify combines a fast onset and extended-duration clinical data with a unique peptide formulation that sets it apart from traditional neuromodulators.

The goal is never to make every face look frozen.

It’s to find the right product, placement, and dose for your anatomy and your goals.
